Health and Safety Coordinator

Permanent: 25+hrs per week based over 5 days (Mon- Fri)

Main purpose

To support ABER in achieving our Health and Safety goals, we are seeking a driven Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team.  The successful candidate will have the capability to coordinate all of the Health and Safety requirements for both ABER employees and ABER buildings.

Based at ABER’s head office in Aberystwyth UK. Reporting to the Operations Project Coordinator.

Duties to Include

  • Ensure ABER complies with all Health and Safety standards and legislation.
  • Work with our Health and Safety Consultants, Citation, ensure ABER’s H&S database is run smoothly and kept up to date.
  • Undertake and complete all risk assessments, managing actions as required.
  • Produce COSHH records for the Manufacturing facility and our specialised labs.
  • Ensure effective training is conducted and recorded for all employees.
  • Develop safety policies and procedures  
  • Internal audits and site inspections.
  • Health and Safety inductions for new starters, providing appropriate materials and H&S training.
  • Responsible for the H&S of ABER buildings, booking in servicing of building plant and machinery and liaising with contractors for any maintenance work.
  • Fire Safety compliance and security of ABER buildings, liaising with appointed contractors.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • NVQ Level 3 in a safety related field or IOSH Certificate – desirable. Full training can be provided for the right candidate.
  • A good understanding of Health and Safety – experience desirable
  • Property maintenance experience – desirable
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Highly motivated and able to work proactively to keeping Safety Standards up to date.
  • Skills, knowledge and experience to recognise hazards in the workplace, with the ability to implement controls to protect employees and others from harm.
  • Demonstrates drive and enthusiasm for your work.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently of others.
  • Flexibility to work across all departments providing Health and Safety knowledge.
  • Demonstrates the confidence to challenge others when implementing Health and Safety standards.
