IT Apprentice (Level 3/4)

The ABER Instruments IT team is looking to grow with the addition of an Apprentice (level 3 or 4 with the potential to progress to a degree apprenticeship). Based in Aberystwyth, we are an employee owned company with over 30 years’ experience making monitoring instrumentation for the brewing and biotech markets. Main purpose

We are looking for an enthusiastic and tech-savvy IT Apprentice to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity to kickstart your career in the IT industry, gaining hands-on experience while receiving structured training beginning at Level 4. You will support the IT department in maintaining and improving our technology infrastructure, learning how to troubleshoot issues, support users, and assist with projects. There will be an opportunity to further develop within this role and work towards higher-level qualifications.

Duties to include

  • Technical Support: Provide first-line support to employees, resolving hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Hardware Setup & Maintenance: Assist in setting up and configuring desktops, laptops, printers, and other devices.
  • Software Management: Install, update, and troubleshoot applications.
  • Network Support: Help maintain and monitor the company’s network systems.
  • Cybersecurity: Follow security protocols to protect company data and assist with implementing cybersecurity measures.
  • Documentation: Maintain records of IT assets, support tickets, and solutions for future reference.
  • Learning & Development: Participate in on-the-job training and complete any required coursework or assessments.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

Essential

  • A passion for technology and problem-solving.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
  • Basic understanding of IT concepts (hardware, software, networks) is an advantage.
  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths.
  • The desire to increase knowledge and develop skills within the IT industry.

Desirable

  • 3 A Levels (or equivalent) are desirable.
